The Mauritius Occupation Permit is a combined work and residence permit that allows foreigners to live and work in Mauritius. There are three types of Occupation Permits: Professional, Self-Employed, and Investor. Each of the 3 types of Mauritius Occupation Permits can then be converted into a Permanent Residence Permit which will give the permit holder the right to live and work in Mauritius for 20 years. Mauritius Professional Permit

The Professional Occupation Permit allows skilled professionals to live and work in Mauritius. To get a Mauritius professional occupation permit, you need to have a job from a company in Mauritius. The minimum salary for the occupation permit is MUR 30,000. This occupation permit is valid for the duration of your employment contract. Professionals can apply for the permit for a maximum of 10 years. After 3 years on a professional occupation permit, you may be eligible to apply for a permanent residence permit in Mauritius.

An Investor Permit allows foreigners to invest in a Mauritian business and obtain residency. There are four options for the Investor Permit:

  • Option 1 – Normal: Make an initial investment of USD 50,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency.

  • Option 2 – Net Asset Value: Invest in a company with a net asset value of at least USD 50,000.

  • Option 3 – High Technology Machines & Equipment: Invest in high technology machines and equipment worth at least USD 50,000.

  • Option 4 – Investor for Innovative starts ups with no investment: Invest in an innovative start-up company with no minimum investment requirement.

To be eligible for a Permanent Residence Permit in Mauritius as an investor, you must have held an Occupation Permit as Investor for at least 3 years, immediately preceding the date of application, and have either a minimum annual gross income of at least MUR 15 million for 3 years or an aggregate turnover of MUR 45 million for any consecutive period of 3 years during your current permit.
