Best places to live in Mauritius
North, west or central? Each part of the island has its own character, climate and community. Our area-by-area guides help you find the right base for your lifestyle, budget and — if you have them — your children's schools.
Three regions, three moods
The north, around Grand Baie, is the island's cosmopolitan hub — amenity-rich, sociable and the easiest place to land. The west, from Flic en Flac through Tamarin to Black River, is drier and more relaxed, built around the beach and the outdoors. The centre, around Moka, is cooler and greener, close to the schools, universities and business districts.
Nowhere is far from anywhere in Mauritius, so most people choose on lifestyle, schools and budget rather than distance. The guides below cover each area in turn.
