Mauritius Technical Occupation Permit
A new occupation permit for contractual and technical workers engaged under an approved Government-to-Government framework — created by the 2026-2027 Budget.
The 2026-2027 Budget created a new Technical Occupation Permit for Mauritius: a work-and-residence route for a contractual or technical worker engaged under an approved Government-to-Government (G2G) framework. It sits alongside the existing Investor, Professional and Self-Employed Occupation Permits.
The permit is enacted but starts on a date to be fixed by Proclamation. Because it is aimed at G2G arrangements, eligibility turns on the specific framework and contract — we assess whether it applies to your situation and, if not, identify the right alternative.
The essentials
A new category
Created specifically for technical and contractual workers under Government-to-Government arrangements.
Flexible salary floor
Unlike the Professional permit's MUR 50,000 minimum, the technical route can apply below it where the role's applicable minimum is met.
Tied to the contract
Valid for up to three years and no longer than the employment contract, with renewal available.
The right route
We confirm whether the G2G framework fits — and, if it doesn't, which Occupation Permit category does.
Frequently asked
How is the Technical Occupation Permit different from the Professional Occupation Permit?
The Professional Occupation Permit requires employment with a Mauritius-registered company on a monthly basic salary of at least MUR 50,000. The Technical Occupation Permit is a separate, new category for workers engaged under an approved Government-to-Government framework, where the salary may fall below MUR 50,000 provided it meets the applicable minimum for the role.
Is the Technical Occupation Permit available yet?
It is written into law by the 2026-2027 Budget but commences on a date to be fixed by Proclamation. We are tracking the start date and will confirm the current position and eligibility before any application.
