Mauritius Digital Travel Authorisation
A new pre-travel authorisation for non-citizens arriving in Mauritius — introduced by the 2026-2027 Budget and applied for online before you fly.
The 2026-2027 Budget introduced a Digital Travel Authorisation (DTA) for Mauritius, now written into the Immigration Act. Once in force, arriving non-citizens will be expected to hold a DTA — applied for online before travelling, on payment of a fee — in the same way that other destinations use electronic travel authorisations.
The measure is enacted but starts on a date to be fixed by Proclamation, so it is not yet a requirement. We are tracking the commencement date and the detailed rules, and we advise clients on how the DTA fits alongside their permit or visa so that arrivals stay smooth.
The essentials
Pre-arrival, online
The DTA is obtained online before you travel — a step to complete in advance rather than on arrival.
Not yet in force
The authorisation is law but commences on a date to be fixed by Proclamation; we confirm the current position before you fly.
Part of a wider modernisation
Alongside the DTA, residence permits may now be issued in digital, card or paper format.
Coordinated with your permit
We make sure the DTA fits cleanly with your visa, Occupation Permit or residence status.
Frequently asked
Do I need a Digital Travel Authorisation to enter Mauritius now?
Not yet. The DTA is written into the Immigration Act but takes effect on a date to be fixed by Proclamation. Until that date, existing entry requirements apply. We confirm the current position for your nationality and permit before you travel.
Will the Digital Travel Authorisation replace my residence permit or visa?
No. The DTA is a pre-travel authorisation to enter Mauritius; it does not replace an Occupation Permit, residence permit or long-stay visa. Some categories of traveller may also be exempted by the Minister. We advise on how the two fit together.
